WWE Superstar Sami Zayn Reportedly Injured

Publish date: 2024-05-20

Raw superstar Sami Zayn is headed to Birmingham, Alabama to have an undisclosed injury checked out, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com.

The injury also forced WWE to book a short match between Zayn and Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank. Lashley easily defeated Zayn in 6:35, which was quite short for a PPV match. Zayn has been trying to work through the injury for some time, and he was notably absent from this week's episode of Monday Night Raw.

We'll await the details of Zayn's injury, but there were no obvious signs that he was working through pain. He looked agile, quick and technically sound in his match against Lashley, for what it's worth.

During his run in NXT, Zayn suffered a shoulder injury and was out of action for seven months. But since moving to the WWE's main roster, he's stayed perfectly healthy and hasn't missed any time due to injury.

WWE has been hit hard by injuries to many of its top superstars over the past calendar year, including Samoa Joe, Big Cass, Jason Jordan, Jeff Hardy and Dean Ambrose - who's been out since December with a torn triceps. All but Ambrose and Jordan have returned thus far, and it'd be brutal if one of Raw's top talents in Zayn also got sidelined long-term with this injury.

Zayn and Kevin Owens joined Raw following the Superstar Shake-Up, and both have entered feuds with Braun Strowman and Lashley. But after their match at Money in the Bank - and with Lashley entering a No. 1 contender's match for the Universal Championship - the feud looks to be done with.

The focus is on Zayn's long-term health, and we can only hope the injury is nothing serious. We'll be sure to provide more information as it becomes available.
